Why does Dead Drop need my location?
Location is the core mechanic. Drops are pinned to GPS coordinates and only reveal themselves when you walk within range. The app uses foreground location only — it never accesses your location when closed or in the background.
How long do messages last?
All drops expire automatically after 24 hours. The app cleans them up from local storage on the next launch after expiry. There is no way to extend a drop's lifetime — this is by design.
What is solo mode and how does it differ from online mode?
Solo mode (the default) keeps everything local to your device — no server, no account, no network required. You plant and discover your own drops to explore the mechanics. Online mode (via Firebase, optional) enables real multi-user drops that other nearby people can find. Solo mode is recommended for getting started.
The Discover screen is stuck and I cannot go back — what do I do?
Tap the "DESTROY MESSAGE" button to exit the discover view. If the button does not appear, force-close the app and reopen it. This is a known navigation issue being addressed in the next release update.
