What This Policy Covers
This policy explains how Braintrust handles your information. It applies to the Braintrust mobile application on Android (and iOS when released).
Information We Collect
We do not collect your captures. Braintrust is a local-first app. Everything you save — links, notes, screenshots, and the tags and search index generated from them — is stored only on your device, in the app's on-device database. This content is never transmitted to Third Party Services LLC or to any server we operate. We cannot see it.
No account required. Braintrust has no sign-up, no login, and no user profile. We do not collect your name, email, phone number, or any identifier.
Content you share into the app. When you use the Android share sheet to send something to Braintrust, the app receives only that item (for example a URL or a piece of text) so it can save it locally. That data goes into your on-device database, not to us.
Crash and performance data. The underlying Expo / React Native runtime may collect standard, aggregate crash and performance diagnostics to help fix bugs. This never includes the content of your captures.
How We Use Information
- To store and organize your captures locally on your device.
- To auto-tag and index captures for search — all performed on-device.
- To diagnose app crashes and improve stability (aggregate diagnostics only).
We do not sell data. We do not use your captures for advertising. We do not transmit your captures to any analytics or third-party service.
Permissions
Braintrust requests only what it needs to save what you share. It does not request microphone, camera, contacts, or background location access. If a future version adds an optional feature that needs a new permission, it will ask you at that time and explain why.
Data Storage and Retention
All captures, tags, and search data are stored on your device in the app's local database. We do not operate a cloud backup in this version. If you delete an item in the app it is removed from your device; if you uninstall Braintrust, all of its data is permanently deleted. We recommend using the app's export feature to back up anything important before uninstalling.
Third-Party Services
- Expo (EAS) — the build and update-delivery platform. See Expo Privacy Policy.
- Google Play — distributes the app and may collect standard install/crash metrics. See Google Privacy Policy.
Children's Privacy
Braintrust is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect personal information from anyone. If you have a concern, contact [email protected].
Your Rights
Because all data is stored locally and we collect nothing, you already have full control: delete items in the app, or uninstall to erase everything. There is no server-side data of yours for us to hold or delete.
Security
Your data is protected by your device's own security model (lock screen and device encryption, if enabled). Braintrust does not transmit your captures over the network in this version.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. Material changes will be noted in the app's release notes, and the "Last updated" date above will reflect the most recent revision.
