What Is Your Printer Doing?

Match your symptom to the likely cause. Most Bambu Lab failures come down to a handful of known issues with known fixes.

🌀

AMS Not Feeding / Grinding / Jamming

Likely: worn PTFE tubes or the internal hub unit

The number one Bambu Lab complaint. Feed failures happen at the first-stage feeder, the hub, or the extruder. Check PTFE wear first, then the hub. Our step-by-step hub replacement guide covers the diagnosis.

🔥

Nozzle Clogs on PLA (P1S / X1C)

Likely: heat creep, not a bad hotend

Enclosed printers cook PLA above the melt zone once the chamber warms up. Open the door before you buy a new hotend. True clogs clear with a high temp extrude, a needle, or a cold pull.

🧱

First Layer Will Not Stick

Likely: an oily plate, not a worn plate

Textured PEI wants hot water and dish soap. IPA alone can smear finger oils around. Never acetone. Most people replace plates that just needed a wash.

📶

WiFi Drops / Cannot Connect

Likely: band steering or mesh handoffs

These printers want a stable 2.4GHz connection. Mesh systems and dual-band routers that auto-switch devices cause most disconnects. A dedicated 2.4GHz network name is the dependable fix.

🚫

Dead After a Firmware Update

Likely: recoverable, not bricked

A failed update usually leaves the printer stuck, not dead. The microSD recovery method restores most machines. Panic is optional, and so is a support ticket.

📷

LiDAR or Camera Errors (X1C / A1)

Likely: dirty lenses or a loose cable

Micro LiDAR malfunction errors are often fixed by cleaning both LiDAR lenses or reseating a loose USB-C or ribbon cable. Board replacement is the last resort, not the first.

Not sure which one you have? That is the actual hard part.

The repairs themselves are mostly simple. Knowing whether your AMS needs a 5 dollar tube or a 25 dollar hub is where people get stuck and where money gets wasted. Send us the diagnosis form and we will tell you what your symptoms point to before you buy anything.

Parts Are Cheap. Diagnosis Is the Hard Part.

Official replacement parts cost far less than people expect. The expensive mistake is replacing the wrong part, or shipping the printer to a big repair shop.

Common Questions

Why is my Bambu Lab AMS not feeding filament?
Feed failures happen at one of three stages: the first-stage feeder in the AMS, the buffer and internal hub, or the extruder. The most common hardware cause is worn PTFE tubing, followed by gear slippage in the internal hub unit. Check the filament path for snapped or curled filament, confirm the spool turns freely, and inspect PTFE wear before buying parts. If filament grinds or stalls at the hub, the internal hub unit is the likely culprit. Our hub replacement guide walks the whole diagnosis.
Is my printer bricked after a failed firmware update?
Almost certainly not. Most failed updates recover with the microSD card method documented in the Bambu Lab wiki: load a firmware image onto a good SD card and the printer restores itself. Stuck is not dead. The stock SD cards are also a known weak point, so a quality replacement card is cheap insurance.
Why will my prints not stick to the bed anymore?
Nine times out of ten the plate is oily, not worn out. Wash textured PEI with hot water and dish soap. IPA alone can spread finger oils instead of removing them, and acetone damages PEI permanently. If a clean plate still fails, look at bed temperature, first layer speed, and part cooling settings for the first layers.
Why does the printer keep dropping off WiFi mid print?
These printers are happiest on a stable 2.4GHz connection. Dual-band routers that steer devices between bands and mesh systems that hand off between nodes cause most disconnects. Firewalls or VPNs that block MQTT break remote monitoring. Give the printer a dedicated 2.4GHz network name and most of these problems disappear.
Is an out-of-warranty Bambu Lab worth fixing?
Usually yes, and by a wide margin. Official parts are inexpensive: the AMS internal hub unit is about 25 dollars, a full P1/X1 power supply about 65 dollars, PTFE tubes a few dollars. The machines are designed for user repair. The real risk is buying the wrong part, which is why diagnosis comes first.
How do I check if my A1 is part of the recall?
A1 printers sold before January 30, 2024 were recalled for a heatbed cable defect that can short circuit. Look at the sixth digit of the serial number: affected units have an A there. Do not DIY a recalled heatbed cable. Verify your serial on Bambu Lab's official A1 recall page and use their free remedy.
What is heat creep and why does my enclosed printer clog on PLA?
Heat creep is filament softening above the melt zone. In enclosed printers like the P1S and X1C the chamber can get warm enough during long prints that PLA goes soft in the heatbreak and jams. The fix costs nothing: open the door or lift the top glass when printing PLA. Save the enclosed chamber for ABS and ASA.
Do you sell replacement parts?
No. We link to the official Bambu Lab store and to Amazon listings for the parts each guide uses. Some of those Amazon links are affiliate links, which are always disclosed on the page where they appear. See our affiliate disclosure.
What does the free diagnosis actually get me?
You describe the symptoms, we tell you what they point to, what part it likely needs, what that part costs, and whether it is a DIY job or something worth handing off. If it turns into hands-on repair work with us, we quote that before touching anything. The answer itself costs nothing.
